Dear Volunteers,

There are times in your life when you leave a conversation feeling like no matter what the headlines are in the news that the world is going to be okay. That is how I felt last week after talking with our volunteer Tim, who was back to deliver for a day while he was on vacation for a week. Dressed in his signature baseball cap, shorts and t-shirt, Tim came in last week ready to make a Friday delivery.

I first met Tim when he was a Rutgers PhD student in Mathematics seven years ago. He would ride a bike to our office several times a week to help deliver meals. He was twenty years old and had already completed his undergraduate education at Carnegie Mellon. It was then he made a conscience decision to commit to using his time wisely. He spent years volunteering for MOW and then later as a Board Member.

Last year after finishing his degree, Dr. Tim Naumovitz moved out West to work for Google. Last month after saving for while he made a $6,000 donation to MOW, which was matched by Google. When the surprise gift of $12,000 came I did a happy dance knowing what a tremendous difference it would make in serving our clients.

Tim only agreed to my writing this piece when I told him it will inspire others. When asked why he chose to contribute such a significant amount of his salary to MOW he answered, “If it is something I believe in, like helping people, I need to live those values by fully committing to those causes.”
