Delivering Nutritious Meals to Seniors Since 1973
Dear Volunteers,
Let’s celebrates the remarkable milestones we’ve achieved together in 2023 and the profound impact you’ve made within our community. The numbers speak volumes: 31,369 home-delivered meals to seniors and 1,448 home-delivered meals to clients under the age of 60. Each meal is a testament to your positive impact and unwavering dedication to our cause.
Your generosity on Giving Tuesday, coupled with the Magyar Giving Tuesday Grant, allowed us to not only deliver essential meals to our homebound seniors, but also to extend warmth and comfort through hats, mittens, scarves, and blankets during the winter season. Then, in December, the Crawl for Hunger generously donated all proceeds from the annual New Brunswick pub crawl to our meal program.
Looking ahead to 2024, we’re thrilled to announce the official launch of our Friendly Visitor Program in the Spring, which will open new avenues for companionship and support to our seniors. Thank you for being the driving force behind these impactful achievements. Together, we’re creating a community that cares and makes a real difference.
An organization shines because of its volunteers. We are forever grateful for each and every one of our volunteers and their service over the course of the year to help the seniors in our community. Please join us in recognizing all of our 2023 Meals on Wheels in Greater New Brunswick Volunteers. We couldn’t do it without them!
Meet Shakthi Rave, a Meals on Wheels in Greater New Brunswick volunteer. Rave recently graduated from Rutgers University and will be attending Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in the Fall.
Her favorite hobbies include reading, drawing, and photography.
Rave’s favorite part about volunteering for Meals on Wheels:
“The work Meals on Wheel does is incredibly meaningful and vital to the members of the community, and I am glad to have the opportunity to serve and give back to the community in this way.”
In December, friends and strangers united for the 9th Annual Crawl for Hunger in the City of New Brunswick. What began as a personal endeavor with a handful of friends and local restaurants has blossomed into an annual pub crawl to fight hunger at the local level.
We interviewed Michael Tublin, founder of the Crawl for Hunger, about the annual event and this year’s generous donation to Meals on Wheels in Greater New Brunswick.
In the upcoming Spring of 2024, we’re thrilled to announce the official launch of our Friendly Visitor Program. Volunteer applications will open in March, marking the beginning of this exciting initiative.
HOW DOES THE FRIENDLY VISITOR PROGRAM HELP OUR SENIORS?
Friendly Visitor works to provide much-needed social engagement to our homebound seniors and disabled clients. Seniors will receive valuable social interactions through one or more of the following services – Friendly Visits, Friendly Calls, and Friendly Mail.
Through Friendly Visits, seniors engage in a variety of positive and enriching in-person social activities like playing board or card games, reading their favorite books, watching a good tv show or just having a great conversation.
Be on the lookout for more information!
Please do not leave meals at the client’s door. Meals on Wheels is more than a meal. It’s also a safety check!
